Embanet’s 2007 Outlook Cautions Online Education Latecomers

Toronto, ON, November 27, 2006 – Embanet’s annual outlook for the online education industry titled “Five Top Trends to Watch: Our Outlook for 2007” cautions institutions that don’t already have an online presence not to be left behind.

“With the new year fast-approaching, we’re looking ahead to predict the dominant trends that will continue to shape the future of online education in 2007,” says Steve Hodownes, President of Embanet Corporation.

“We scored high marks for the accuracy of our 2006 outlook,” says Hodownes, “and many of the trends we noted last year will continue to play out in the year ahead. We’re continuing to witness the emergence of a great marketing divide, for example, between the ‘haves’ (institutions that have established growing, nationwide online programs in short time frames) and the ‘have-nots’ (institutions that are rapidly falling behind through their inability to quickly develop high-quality online courses and aggressively fill the seats with students.)

“We believe 2007 will be a water-shed year,” he says. “Non-profit institutions will continue to feel increased pressure to go online as the for-profits become more aggressive. The ‘have-nots’ will fall even farther behind if they aren’t able to establish their online presence quickly and, over the long term, for-profit institutions will capture a disproportionate amount of the market if they continue to act aggressively.”

As an early pioneer of the industry, and with more than a decade of success in online higher education behind us, Embanet continues to focus on strategies, services and solutions to maximize student retention, completion and return on investment for our client institutions.
