Learners Resources

Being an online student   (back to top)

Online education allows people who have full time jobs, a family or other obligations, to further enhance or finish their education. Taking education at a distance allows you to keep up with your personal development without interrupting your career, without having to relocate or leave your family in the care of others.

Online Learning - What is it?   (back to top)

The online learning process is not the same as a traditional learning where you come to a physical classroom. It is a flexible environment that allows you to study from wherever you want, whenever you want. The distance learning process via e-Learning tools is designed to stimulate dialogue among the learners and instructors. As a result, it is important that you feel comfortable in sharing your opinions and ideas with others in writing.

How much time does an online course require?   (back to top)

Depending on the program you enroll in, you can expect to spend anywhere from 4-15 hours a week studying online and/or offline. We advise you to work on your course 5 out of 7 days so that you do not fall behind. For the most part online courses are dynamic and discussion driven, so you will be expected to contribute on a regular basis.

What computer skills are needed?   (back to top)

Having basic computer skills and knowledge of the most common word processing systems will be a significant asset. However, if you are someone who has no experience with computers, do not be discouraged. At Embanet we provide you with online tutorials to help you understand the functions and teach you how to use all the tools of your virtual classroom. Depending on your program, training will also be given by Embanet educators. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you do not know what to do, you can call our support line and speak to one of our technical experts.

What is the cost of an online education?   (back to top)

The cost of an online program is about equal to the cost of a traditional program. However, the cost may vary from institution to institution. In some cases the amount could be very inexpensive compared to traditional on-ground classes, the cost of your online classes will vary by the type of program you are enrolling into and whether it is a graduate or undergraduate level course. It is important to remember that in some institutions the cost to support the technology used to make programs available may be high; as a result, tuition for that program will reflect that cost in tuition fees.

How do you know if online learning is for you?   (back to top)

Only you can ultimately decide whether online learning is for you. If you have the desire and will to undertake it, everything is possible. If you would like to evaluate yourself, you can use the student self-evaluation. It will give you a solid indication of where you stand and how you rate as a potential learner.
